Our take
What does L'Eau Super Majeure d'Issey smell like?
L'Eau Super Majeure d'Issey arrived in 2018 as a more intense version of L'Eau Majeure d'Issey. Aurélien Guichard and Fabrice Pellegrin composed this eau de toilette. Bergamot and grapefruit come first, followed by an aromatic gust of clary sage and rosemary. Picture a rocky coastline covered in scrub. The heart is salty. Sea salt clings to cashmeran, which adds a felted woody texture, while patchouli darkens the mix. The base carries on with amber woods softened by vanilla and tonka bean. It is warmer and denser than the aquatic you'd expect from this house. Compared with the 1994 L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme, very lemony and watery, this one plays winter sea rather than summer beach. The amber woods can smell synthetic on some skins. Even so, it works and is easy to wear.
When to wear it
