Our take
What does Only The Brave High smell like?
Diesel added Only The Brave High to the line in 2017, eight years after the original Only The Brave. Nicolas Beaulieu and Carlos Benaim are credited. The opening wakes you up. Grapefruit and yuzu come first, then dry ginger and a peppermint that cools the nose like chewing gum. The heart goes aromatic. Star anise brings a licorice sweetness while lavandin and geranium pull toward a classic fougère. Diesel also lists an in-house molecule at this stage. The base is darker. Cashmeran, moss, amber and styrax form a muffled and slightly resinous wood. Compared with the 2009 Only The Brave, which is sweeter and more leathery, High comes across greener and cleaner. It still keeps the brand’s macho DNA. The mint doesn’t last, which is a shame since it carries the first minutes.
When to wear it
A daytime scent for spring and summer, at the gym or at work. Four sprays are fine because the top fades fast.
It belongs to the Woody, Aromatic family. Only The Brave High is one of 14 creations by Diesel in our encyclopedia.
