Our take
What does Individuel smell like?
Montblanc launched Individuel in 2003, a men's scent by Pierre Bourdon, the perfumer behind Cool Water. The published pyramid is long. Pineapple and coriander share the top with lavender and cinnamon, plus rosemary and bergamot. On skin it reads mainly as spiced lavender with a fruity flash. The heart moves to orange blossom and violet, backed by jasmine and geranium. It's quiet and slightly powdery. The base is why people remember it. Raspberry, vanilla and dark chocolate sit on sandalwood, amber and patchouli. The raspberry dominates for hours and gives a candy feel you wouldn't expect from such a sober bottle. Next to Thierry Mugler's A*Men, another sweet masculine, Individuel stays light and never drifts toward caramel. Longevity is average, which matters if you need it to last a full day.
When to wear it
A weekend and casual evening scent, best in autumn. Three sprays are reasonable given its modest staying power.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Woody family. Individuel is one of 19 creations by Montblanc in our encyclopedia.
