Our take
What does Starwalker smell like?
In 2005 Montblanc launched Starwalker, named after its line of pens. Michel Almairac composed it. The opening rests on a bamboo note, green and watery, framed by bergamot and mandarin. It has the freshness of a cut stem, which felt original for a men's scent in the mid 2000s. The heart warms up with nutmeg and ginger. Elemi, a lemony resin, links the spices back to the top. The base is the shortest stage. Amber and sandalwood hold for a few hours over a clean musk, then everything fades. That is the weak point, and you should know it before buying. Compared with L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme, another fresh and spicy men's scent, Starwalker is greener and less citrusy. It also turns softer, almost creamy, toward the end. It remains a good summer choice if you are happy to reapply during the day.
When to wear it
A summer scent for daytime and the office. Carry a travel spray, because it fades after three or four hours.
It belongs to the Woody, Spicy family. Starwalker is one of 19 creations by Montblanc in our encyclopedia.
