The story of Montblanc
Montblanc was born in Hamburg in 1906, the initiative of a small group of entrepreneurs who wanted to make high-quality fountain pens. The brand adopted the name of the highest peak in the Alps and, soon after, its emblem: a white star with rounded points evoking the snow-capped summit. The Meisterstück pen, introduced in the 1920s, became one of the most famous writing instruments in the world. Over the decades the house expanded into leather goods, watchmaking and men's luxury accessories. Its fragrances have been developed under licence by the Interparfums group since 2010. Legend, in 2011, became one of its major successes, followed by Explorer in 2019, which celebrates adventure and travel through a contemporary woody aromatic. Together they have given the brand a solid place in modern men's perfumery.
An olfactory signature
Montblanc's olfactory identity is masculine, clean and woody. Explorer is its best illustration: an opening of bergamot, pink pepper and clary sage, a heart of Haitian vetiver, Indonesian patchouli and leather, then a base of cocoa, ambroxan and akigalawood. The result is a dry, slightly smoky woody aromatic, clear and modern, designed to be worn easily every day. It trades drama for dependability, which is precisely what many of its wearers are looking for.
Which Montblanc perfume to choose?
In our database Montblanc is represented by Explorer, launched in 2019. Choose it if you enjoy modern woody aromatics built on vetiver, patchouli and leather with an ambery touch. It is a versatile scent that works at the office and at weekends, in any season. For a fresher take in a similar vein, compare it with Parfums de Marly Sedley or Greenley.
