Our take
What does Emblem smell like?
Montblanc released Emblem in spring 2014 alongside Emblem Intense. The brand wanted a second men's pillar next to Legend from 2011. Emblem opens on clary sage, cardamom and grapefruit. The effect is fresh and a little soapy. The heart relies on a so-called frozen violet leaf. It adds a green, metallic side that recalls cucumber. A touch of cinnamon warms it up without making it spicy. The base pairs dry woods with tonka bean and a hay-like sweetness. Compared with Legend, which is more lavender-led and rounder, Emblem is spicier and colder. Its main problem is a lack of identity. Smelled blind, you could mix it up with ten aromatic woodies from the same years. The low price works in its favor, which matters for a scent this safe. The brand doesn't name a perfumer.
