Our take
What does Féminité du Bois smell like?
Féminité du Bois came out in 1992 under Shiseido, with Serge Lutens as creative director, and moved into the Serge Lutens brand in 2009. Pierre Bourdon and Christopher Sheldrake built it around an idea that was new at the time: putting cedar, a wood seen as masculine, at the centre of a perfume meant for women. The opening is spicy. Cinnamon, clove and cardamom mingle with candied orange, close to mulled wine. Ripe plum and peach fill the heart, made more delicate by violet and rose, with a thread of orange blossom. Then cedar takes over, dry and pencil-like, coated in honey and beeswax. Sandalwood, benzoin and soft musk stretch the drydown for hours. The house now presents it as its first unisex eau de parfum.
