Our take
What does Donna Noir Absolu smell like?
Valentino introduced Donna Noir Absolu in 2017 as part of a Noir Absolu collection that launched first in the UK. Sonia Constant composed it. The 2015 Valentino Donna relied on iris and powdery leather. This version darkens everything. Black pepper and saffron open on a spicy, almost smoky note. The heart is the best part. Very ripe plum liqueur coats rose and jasmine sambac, like fruit steeped in brandy and dropped onto a bouquet. The base brings back the house leather, darker here, held up by cedar and sandalwood. It stays smooth despite the density, and the leather never turns harsh or smoky. Compared with Valentino Donna, Noir Absolu is less powdery and far fruitier. The boozy side can feel cloying in daylight, especially in a warm office. This is an evening perfume built to last, and it clings to wool scarves.
When to wear it
Keep it for winter nights and dressy outings. One spray on the nape is enough, the plum is strong.
It belongs to the Floral, Oriental / Amber family. Donna Noir Absolu is one of 12 creations by Valentino in our encyclopedia.
