Our take
What does Dent de Lait smell like?
Serge Lutens unveiled Dent de Lait in June 2017 at his Palais Royal boutique, with a wider release that September. Christopher Sheldrake co-signed the formula once again. It joined the Collection Noire, which was reorganized that year into 100 ml bottles. Lutens talked about childhood and the age when milk teeth fall out. The opening surprises with a metallic, almost bloody note, like the taste of a wobbly tooth. Almond follows right away. The heart turns milky with almond milk, warm milk and coconut, while heliotrope adds its marzipan powder. The base sets down light incense and cashmeran, a soft musky wood. Compared with Jeux de Peau, the house’s other milky scent, Dent de Lait feels colder and stranger. Some people will smell only an expensive sweet musk.
