Our take
What does Azzaro pour Homme Intense smell like?
Azzaro released this Intense eau de parfum in 2015 as a new take on its 1978 classic. Sources disagree on the perfumer, so we leave that blank. Anyone who knows the original will be surprised by the opening. There is no lavender up front, just warm cinnamon with a bakery edge. A boozy brandy note follows and evokes a glass of cognac after dinner. The heart turns drier. Vetiver draws an earthy line and sandalwood smooths it without drowning it. Then tonka bean takes over with a sweet amber that clings to skin. Compared with the 1978 Azzaro pour Homme, the Intense loses the bitter aromatic bite and the barbershop feel. It gains warmth and sugar instead. This is a different perfume, built for evenings rather than the bathroom shelf. Fans of the original may find it too polite. Others will finally get an Azzaro that suits a wool sweater.
When to wear it
Best on cold evenings and weekend nights out. Three sprays are plenty because the cinnamon and tonka fill a closed room fast.
It belongs to the Woody, Fougère family. Azzaro pour Homme Intense is one of 25 creations by Azzaro in our encyclopedia.
