Our take
What does Decibel smell like?
Azzaro launched Decibel in 2011 in a bottle shaped like a stage microphone. Christophe Raynaud composed this rock-themed masculine, filed under spicy oriental. It starts fast. Mandarin and a C11 aldehyde feel cold and metallic, like an amplifier being switched on. A streak of lemon sharpens it. Licorice then arrives and rules the heart. It is dark and slightly aniseed, and violet adds a powdery side that is unusual in a men's scent. Incense brings smoke. The base softens. Vetiver, tonka and vanilla lay down a sweet warmth that stays dry thanks to the roots. Compared with Thierry Mugler's A*Men, Decibel is less gourmand and airier. Its licorice plays the same dark card without the coffee or caramel. The microphone bottle is still one of the funniest of its decade. On skin, the licorice outlasts everything else.
When to wear it
An evening scent for autumn and winter, too loud for the office. Two sprays are enough.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Spicy family. Decibel is one of 24 creations by Azzaro in our encyclopedia.
