Our take
What does Beauty smell like?
Calvin Klein launched Beauty in autumn 2010, with Diane Kruger dressed in white for the campaign. Sophie Labbé of IFF composed it. The brand aimed at an older woman and turned away from dark orientals like Obsession. The opening is fresh and bright. Jasmine leads straight away, stripped of its animal side. Lily takes over in the heart. White flowers keep it company, with a hint of spice so it never goes bland. Picture a tall vase of lilies in a hotel lobby. The base rests on ambrette, a plant musk with a slightly powdery feel, and on clean cedar. Nothing sticks out. Euphoria plays with pomegranate and black orchid, while Beauty goes for light and clarity. It feels closer to the minimalist florals of its decade than to the brand's big hits.
When to wear it
A daytime floral for spring and summer that suits the office or a wedding. Two sprays on the wrists and throat will do, since it carries further than you expect.
It belongs to the Floral family. Beauty is one of 24 creations by Calvin Klein in our encyclopedia.
