Our take
What does Truth smell like?
Calvin Klein launched Truth in 2000. Three perfumers signed it: Alberto Morillas, Jacques Cavallier and Thierry Wasser. The opening smells of bamboo stalk and clover. It is green and slightly watery, with a young-shoot note. The heart brings pale flowers: white peony, silk tree blossom and acacia. Nothing heady. Think of clean laundry hung out in a damp garden. The base settles into light vanilla, white amber and musk, with a streak of vetiver. It turns soft and milky without ever weighing you down. Retailers file it under woody orientals, which is surprising given how clear it stays. Next to Eternity, more floral and more traditional, Truth feels minimalist. It captures the restraint Calvin Klein was known for at the time. That quietness probably explains why it has slipped from view since.
When to wear it
A spring scent for the office and daytime. Two sprays are enough and it stays close to the body.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Woody family. Truth is one of 24 creations by Calvin Klein in our encyclopedia.
