Our take
What does Cool Water Intense smell like?
Davidoff launched Cool Water Intense in 2019, thirty-one years after the 1988 Cool Water. Annick Ménardo composed it. The official pyramid has just three notes. Green mandarin opens. It comes from Vale do Caí in Brazil, through a sourcing programme the perfumer followed. It is fresh and brief. Coconut water takes over. It smells more like sunscreen than fruit, which splits opinion. Amber then fills the base, salty and woody in the Ambroxan style. That is what gives it staying power. The original Cool Water is aromatic and aquatic, and Intense is heavier and sweeter by comparison. Both share a taste for summer skin. Fans of the original won't find its lavender here. People who love salty ambers will feel right at home. It also projects far more than its name suggests, so go easy in the office.
When to wear it
For summer, on skin fresh from the beach, or a holiday evening. Two sprays will do, the amber carries far.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Woody family. Cool Water Intense is one of 4 creations by Davidoff in our encyclopedia.
