What does The Only One Intense smell like?
Dolce & Gabbana added a new chapter to The Only One in 2020, after the 2018 eau de parfum and The Only One 2. The house files this Intense version under what it calls flAmber, a blend of floral and amber. The black and gold bottle sets the tone. The opening is brighter than you might expect, with Italian mandarin, green apple and neroli. The apple is the surprise, almost tart. The heart lays down thick orange blossom and jasmine. Creamy coconut makes them softer. This is far from the violet and coffee of the original. The base rests on dark vanilla, cedar and cashmere wood that keep the sugar in line. It brings Mon Guerlain to mind with its dense vanilla, though it adds orange blossom and drops the lavender. Some will find the orange blossom a bit synthetic.
When to wear it
Bring it out on a winter night over a dress or a cashmere sweater. Two sprays are enough since the vanilla base projects well.
