Our take
What does Air di Gioia smell like?
Armani added Air di Gioia to the Gioia family in 2016 as an eau de parfum. The brand built it around a molecule called Maritima, described as an ozonic, salty breeze. You catch it in the first seconds behind mandarin and neroli. A touch of pink pepper sharpens them. The heart then opens on ylang-ylang, peony and orange blossom. There is air between the flowers, like a bouquet left by an open window. The base keeps a low profile. Patchouli, white musks and moss sketch a fairly dry woody floral with no vanilla in sight. Acqua di Gioia is more lemony and more aquatic. Air di Gioia is softer and more floral, and it also wears closer to the skin. The salty note comes back now and then, a reminder of the sea that the name never quite admits to.
When to wear it
A daytime scent for spring and summer, quiet enough for the office. Plan on three or four sprays, as longevity is modest.
It belongs to the Floral, Woody family. Air di Gioia is one of 46 creations by Giorgio Armani in our encyclopedia.
