What does Stronger With You smell like?
Launched in 2017 as part of the Emporio Armani line, Stronger With You targets a younger crowd with a simple idea: a gourmand oriental fougère built around chestnut. The opening is spicy and fresh, with cardamom, pink pepper and green violet leaves. The heart pairs aromatic sage with soft cinnamon and a sugary meringue note that gives it a pastry-shop feel. The base is the signature: roasted chestnut, vanilla and cedar for smooth, cosy warmth. There is nothing complex about it, but its marron glacé accord is instantly recognisable and very pleasant on skin.

The story of Stronger With You
Stronger With You launched in 2017 under Emporio Armani, the younger and more urban line of Giorgio Armani. It came out as a pair with a feminine, Because It's You, and the marketing leaned hard on the couple idea: two scents meant to answer each other. Cécile Matton and Serge Majoullier wrote the formula. Their central idea, a roasted chestnut accord that drifts toward marron glacé, was unusual for a mass-market masculine at the time. Sweetness in men's perfume mostly came from vanilla, tonka or coffee. The timing was right, though. Since Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Male and Mugler's A*Men, men had accepted sugar, and a younger crowd wanted gourmands lighter than those two 1990s heavyweights. Stronger With You answered with a smooth texture and a more restrained trail. The line grew fast. Stronger With You Intensely arrived in 2019 with heavier toffee and vanilla suede, followed by Absolutely and a string of other versions. Among all those flankers, the 2017 original remains the lightest of the family.
Our detailed review
What surprised us was how green the opening is. For twenty minutes cool cardamom, pink pepper and violet leaf give it an almost serious aromatic feel. Then sage and cinnamon come in and the meringue starts sweetening the air. Around the one-hour mark the chestnut settles for good. It smells like hot chestnuts from a paper cone, with soft vanilla and a quiet cedar underneath. It is pleasant, very easy and honestly comforting in cold weather. Its weakness is shyness. After three hours you need your nose on your wrist to find it, and once the chestnut lands the scent barely changes. Some will also find it too sugary for a grown man in a meeting room. It suits younger men discovering gourmands and anyone who wants a cosy scent that never bothers the people nearby. Those after complexity or power should look elsewhere, perhaps starting with the Intensely version.
Stronger With You vs its rivals
The logical big brother is Stronger With You Intensely. It keeps the cinnamon, sage, pink pepper and vanilla, swaps chestnut for toffee and adds an ambery suede. Sweeter, denser and far more tenacious, it targets winter nights, while the original remains a cool-day scent. Jean Paul Gaultier's Ultra Male shares cinnamon, sage and vanilla. Candied pear and black lavender make it louder and more syrupy, clearly built to project. Parfums de Marly's Pegasus only overlaps on pink pepper, vanilla and cedar. Almond and heliotrope give it a creamy, powdery gourmand character that feels more refined and costs a lot more. Keep Stronger With You for discretion. Reach for Ultra Male to be noticed on a Saturday night. For a more polished gourmand, Pegasus justifies the price gap.
Longevity, projection and use
On paper the strength is medium, but projection is modest in practice. Expect five to seven hours on skin, of which only two or three are noticeable to others. The rest of the time it wears close to the body. Four sprays are not too many. Cover the neck, nape and chest, and add one on a jumper or scarf, where the chestnut lasts much longer. It is an autumn and winter scent for dates, relaxed evenings and outings in the cold. At the office its discretion is an advantage. In summer the meringue and vanilla turn sticky, so we leave it in the cupboard.
