Our take
What does French Kiss smell like?
Guerlain released French Kiss in August 2014 to mark twenty years of its KissKiss lipstick. It joined the Elixirs Charnels collection next to Gourmand Coquin and Floral Romantique. The house did not put a perfumer forward. The opening is fruity and sweet. Raspberry and lychee give a glossy, almost lacquered effect. In the heart, rose and violet clearly recall the smell of lipstick. It's powdery and a little waxy. The base keeps the theme going. Heliotrope brings its almond and modelling clay tone, iris adds more powder and vanilla rounds things off. White musks keep it clean. Frédéric Malle's Lipstick Rose handles the same subject with more restraint. French Kiss is sweeter and more vanillic. It lacks a little mystery but stays true to its theme. It wears best on clothes, where the powder lasts longer.
When to wear it
