Our take
What does Magnetism smell like?
Escada released Magnetism in 2003, when the brand was best known for its fruity summer editions. Nothing seasonal here. This is a sweet, dense evening scent. The opening throws together pineapple, blackcurrant, melon and red berries. Lychee adds a candy note. It smells like a cocktail served too cold. The heart then turns floral and powdery. Rose and jasmine mix with magnolia and freesia, while iris and heliotrope pull the whole thing toward rice powder. Then the caramel arrives. It rules the base alongside vanilla and amber, with sandalwood and patchouli keeping it from melting completely. Musk makes it last a very long time on skin and on clothes. The fruit and caramel blend brings Mugler's Angel to mind. Magnetism is more floral, though, and carries much less patchouli. That makes it easier to wear for anyone who finds Angel too harsh.
When to wear it
Save it for winter nights, ideally outdoors. One spray is enough, since two quickly become stifling in a closed room.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber family. Magnetism is one of 11 creations by Escada in our encyclopedia.
