Our take
What does L'Homme Idéal Sport smell like?
Guerlain released L'Homme Idéal Sport in May 2017, following the 2014 original and the 2015 Cologne. Thierry Wasser and Delphine Jelk composed this eau de toilette. It opens with aquatic notes and fresh spices. The marine effect is restrained, more like cold water on skin than an ocean breeze. Almond, the thread running through the line, shows up early. It is less boozy than in the original and closer to almond milk than amaretto. Neroli brightens it and adds a fine-soap feel. The base pairs vetiver, patchouli and coumarin. Coumarin smells of hay and stretches the almond's softness, while vetiver dries everything out. Compared with L'Homme Idéal Cologne, it is a little sweeter and much more aquatic. The word Sport is misleading, as this is no locker-room scent. It is a clean and comfortable daytime fragrance that lacks staying power.
