Our take
What does Encre Noire Sport smell like?
Lalique released Encre Noire Sport in 2013, seven years after Encre Noire. Nathalie Lorson, who wrote the original, composed this one too. The brand calls it as elegant as ever but more dynamic. The opening is much brighter than its older sibling's. Grapefruit and bergamot give a tart sparkle. Cypress and lavender keep an aromatic thread running through it, a nod to the original. In the heart, aquatic notes and nutmeg wrap around vetiver from both Bourbon and Haiti. That vetiver keeps its earthiness, but the water lightens it. The cashmere wood and musk base is soft and slightly creamy. Next to Encre Noire, which is very dark and almost smoky, the Sport version loses mystery and gains freshness. It's still a good summer vetiver. Longevity is fine, though its personality is weaker.
When to wear it
A fresh vetiver for summer, at the office or on weekends. Three sprays on the neck and chest.
