Our take
What does Le Parfum du 68 smell like?
Guerlain reopened its boutique at 68 Champs-Élysées in 2013. For the occasion Thierry Wasser reworked the 2006 Cologne du 68 into something denser. A first extrait came out in just thirty Baccarat turtle bottles gilded by hand. The eau de parfum, sold only at the Maison Guerlain, followed in 2014. It opens on warm and cool spices. A dry warmth meets a peppery chill and neither one wins. The heart is the best part. Rose crosses paths with immortelle, the yellow flower that smells of curry, dry hay and maple syrup. The base is rich. Benzoin, tonka and heliotrope bring a powdery sweetness before incense and leather darken everything. It is smoother than Annick Goutal’s Sables, another immortelle scent, and keeps the round Guerlain signature. Its only real flaw is how hard it is to find.
When to wear it
An evening perfume for autumn and winter. One spray on the neck is enough, and it lingers on a scarf for days.
It belongs to the Floral, Woody, Musky family. Le Parfum du 68 is one of 89 creations by Guerlain in our encyclopedia.
