Our take
What does L'Eau Majeure d'Issey smell like?
With L’Eau Majeure d’Issey in 2017, Issey Miyake returned to the water idea that made L’Eau d’Issey a hit in 1994. This time it looks to the ocean instead of the spring. No perfumer is officially named. It opens with a citrus cocktail of bergamot and grapefruit, bitter enough to wake you up. The heart carries the real idea. A salty accord smells like skin drying in the sun after a swim. It gives the citrus some relief without sliding into ozone. The base is built on amber woods, cedar and plenty of cashmeran. The trail is dry and slightly mineral. Compared with L’Eau d’Issey pour Homme and its yuzu, Majeure is saltier and woodier. It is also less aquatic in the 1990s sense. A follow-up, L’Eau Super Majeure d’Issey, came out in 2018.
When to wear it
An everyday fresh scent from office to weekend, especially in summer. Use three or four sprays because the citrus fades fast.
It belongs to the Woody, Aquatic family. L'Eau Majeure d'Issey is one of 11 creations by Issey Miyake in our encyclopedia.
