Our take
What does L'Eau d'Issey Pure smell like?
Issey Miyake launched L'Eau d'Issey Pure in May 2016, twenty-four years after L'Eau d'Issey. Dominique Ropion got the brief. He dropped the original's Calone and built a marine accord on Maritima, an IFF material that smells of salty sea spray. So the opening is briny, with a mineral ambergris. The heart stays loyal to the family. Crystalline lily of the valley and orange blossom bring the light. Damask rose and jasmine absolute add volume. The base rests on Cashmeran, a musky wood that smells like clean wool. The whole thing stays sheer and very smooth. Compared with the 1992 L'Eau d'Issey, Pure has less melon and more flowers. It sits close to the skin, which suits the office. This is the version to pick if the original feels too watery.
When to wear it
A marine floral for spring and summer, at work or in town. Three sprays, since it fades from notice quickly.
It belongs to the Floral, Aquatic family. L'Eau d'Issey Pure is one of 11 creations by Issey Miyake in our encyclopedia.
