Our take
What does Pleats Please smell like?
Issey Miyake launched Pleats Please in 2012. The name comes from the designer's line of pleated clothing, light pieces that come out of a suitcase without a crease. The perfume follows the same idea of ease. It opens on nashi pear, the Asian fruit that sits between apple and pear, crisp and full of water. Peony and sweet pea then build a pale pink heart. Nothing heavy. The base lays down cedar, patchouli and vanilla, softened by a white musk that smells like clean laundry. The patchouli stays in the background, present just enough to avoid a candy effect. L'Eau d'Issey is more aquatic and more austere, while Pleats Please plays fruit and cheerfulness. It is also less sugary than most fruity florals from the same period. Some will find it slight. It never claims to be anything more than a spring perfume.
When to wear it
Ideal for the office or sunny weekends. Spray generously, at least four times, because it sits close to the skin.
It belongs to the Floral, Fruity family. Pleats Please is one of 11 creations by Issey Miyake in our encyclopedia.
