Our take
What does Emblem Absolu smell like?
In 2017 Montblanc spun off its 2014 Emblem with Emblem Absolu, an eau de toilette warmer than the original. The bottle keeps the faceted shape of the range, inspired by the brand's emblem. The opening bets on fruit. Juicy pear and mandarin get a lift from cardamom, which adds a cool and slightly soapy feel. The heart turns more aromatic. Lavender arrives coated in honey, with fizzy pink pepper and fruity notes that carry the opening forward. That is the best part of the scent. The base rests on vetiver and patchouli, plus a crystal moss accord that adds a clean texture. Emblem went for icy freshness and violet. Emblem Absolu is sweeter and rounder, which suits the colder months better. It remains a crowd-pleasing masculine, well built but rarely surprising.
