Our take
What does Fleur du Mâle smell like?
Fleur du Mâle came out in 2007. Francis Kurkdjian, who had composed Le Male in 1995, signed it as well. The idea was simple: swap the original's lavender for orange blossom. The official pyramid is only a few lines long, on purpose. Petitgrain opens on a bitter green note. Orange blossom then settles in, thick and almost soapy, over a fern accord that keeps the masculine frame. Coumarin in the base smells of hay and almond, with a softness that lasts for hours. It is more floral than Le Male and much less sweet. It was arguably ahead of its time, a frankly floral men's scent when few brands dared. The perfume vanished from shelves for several years. Jean Paul Gaultier announced its return in 2026, and nobody yet knows whether the formula matches.
When to wear it
Spring and summer, for a date or a warm evening. Two sprays on the chest are enough: the orange blossom does the rest.
It belongs to the Fougère, Aromatic family. Fleur du Mâle is one of 22 creations by Jean Paul Gaultier in our encyclopedia.
