Our take
What does Nilang smell like?
Lalique created Nilang in 1995 and relaunched it in 2011 with a new eau de parfum presentation. Gérard Anthony is credited with the formula. It's very much a perfume of its time. The opening mixes melon, peach and mandarin with juicy orange, that watery fruit freshness you found everywhere in the mid-1990s. The heart is a crowded bouquet. Jasmine and freesia lead, lotus keeps the watery effect going and cranberry adds a tart berry note. Gillyflower brings a clove-like spice. The base switches tone completely. Praline and vanilla settle in with amber, and sandalwood adds some wood. You go from fruit basket to candy shop. Nilang has the praline of Mugler's Angel, released three years earlier, minus its massive patchouli. The 2011 relaunch put this older scent back on the shelves.
When to wear it
An evening scent for the cold season, to be dosed with care. One or two sprays are enough since the praline carries far.
It belongs to the Floral, Oriental / Amber family. Nilang is one of 17 creations by Lalique in our encyclopedia.
