Our take
What does Muguet smell like?
Molinard is a Grasse house founded in 1849. It has sold its Muguet eau de toilette since the mid-1990s, and most retailers cite 1994. The idea is a soliflore. One flower, rendered as faithfully as possible. From the first second, lily of the valley fills the room. It is green and cool and almost wet, like a freshly snapped stem. Rose and lotus join it in the heart without ever covering it. The lotus adds a clear-water feel that suits a May flower. The base stays light. Watery notes and a discreet jasmine stretch the effect out without warming it up. Dior's Diorissimo remains the benchmark lily of the valley in perfumery. Molinard's version is far simpler and more literal, with fewer shades, yet it costs a fraction of the price and gets the springtime sprig across.
