Our take
What does Alien Musc Mystérieux smell like?
Mugler launched Alien Musc Mystérieux in April 2017. It joined the Alien Oriental Collection, which Alien Oud Majestueux had opened in 2015. Dominique Ropion, who co-wrote the 2005 Alien, is credited on the formula. The talisman bottle keeps its shape and comes in white tinted with gold. The opening is dry and warm. Saffron and dusty spices lead, with a hint of pale leather. Jasmine sambac shows up fast, so you know which family you are in. But cashmeran wraps it in a woolly, woody texture and takes away the sunny glare. The flower goes soft. The base is dense white musk and a restrained vanilla that reads as skin more than dessert. Next to the original Alien it sits lower and closer to the body. The amber that announces Alien from across a room is gone. What remains is still loud for a musk.
When to wear it
Save it for autumn and winter evenings, sprayed on a sweater or scarf. One spray on the nape and one on the wrist is plenty.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Woody family. Alien Musc Mystérieux is one of 23 creations by Mugler in our encyclopedia.
