Our take
What does Angel Innocent smell like?
Thierry Mugler launched Innocent in 1998, six years after Angel. It was later sold as Angel Innocent, which makes the family link explicit. Think of it as Angel with the massive patchouli taken out. Mandarin and bergamot open it. That part is brief. The heart is more interesting, with green black currant and red berries over an almond that smells like marzipan rather than cake. The base brings back praline, the house trademark. Here it sits on white musk and light amber, so everything stays airy. Next to Angel, Innocent feels younger and less dark. It also fades faster on skin. Its profile points toward the fruity gourmands that came later far more than toward the 1992 monster. Perfumer credits differ between sources, so we leave that question open.
When to wear it
A gourmand for cold days and weekends, and much easier than Angel to wear at the office. Spray it on a wool sweater, where the praline lasts far longer than on skin.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber family. Angel Innocent is one of 23 creations by Mugler in our encyclopedia.
