What does Lippizan smell like?
Lippizan is among the first creations of Parfums de Marly, a house founded in 2009 that draws on the horses of Louis XV’s court; the name itself refers to a famous breed of dressage horse. The fragrance takes the stance of an old-school woody chypre. The opening is lively and aromatic: clary sage, thyme and tarragon, lifted by cardamom, lemon and bergamot. The heart is richly layered, with green galbanum and vetiver alongside cedar, jasmine, rose, iris and patchouli in a dry, structured whole. Oakmoss, leather, musk, amber and vanilla give the base a patina of saddlery and forest floor. Picture a polished stable, a tweed jacket, an elegance from another age.
When to wear it
For the office, daytime or a low-key evening, especially in spring and autumn. It suits fans of classic masculine chypres and aromatic scents.
