What does Herod smell like?
Released in 2012, Herod is among the most admired tobacco scents in niche perfumery, framed within Parfums de Marly's equestrian world. The opening is warm, with cinnamon and pepperwood giving an immediate woody bite. The heart brings in the tobacco, round and honeyed, surrounded by incense, apricot-tinged osmanthus and ambery labdanum. That combination is the source of its reputation: a tobacco that smells of dried leaf rather than cold ash. The base of vanilla, Iso E Super, cedar, musk, vetiver and amber extends it with a diffusive woody softness. The result is rich, comfortable and faintly fruity, with the elegance of an English gentlemen's club.
