Our take
What does L'Homme Cologne Bleue smell like?
February 2018 brought Cologne Bleue into the L’Homme family that started in 2006. Juliette Karagueuzoglou composed this 100 ml eau de toilette, and model Vinnie Woolston fronted the campaign. The opening is all citrus. Blood orange, grapefruit, mandarin and bergamot jostle over a salty marine accord. Black pepper and cardamom then add a sting. That hot and cold contrast is the best part of the perfume. The heart turns aromatic with lavender and thyme. The base settles on dry cedar, some sandalwood and a trace of patchouli. Nothing here is new, but the execution is tidy and the blend never smells cheap. Bleu de Chanel plays a similar citrus and pepper game with more volume. Cologne Bleue stays lighter and saltier, clearly built for summer. These days it has become hard to find in shops.
