Our take
What does Only The Brave Wild smell like?
Diesel added Only The Brave Wild to its range in September 2014, still in the fist-shaped bottle. Siblings Antoine and Shyamala Maisondieu wrote the formula. The opening is green and sharp. Lemongrass smells of cut grass, grapefruit adds a bitter zest, and black pepper wakes everything up. The heart returns to classic fougère territory with lavender, nutmeg and geranium, plus coumarin's hay-like warmth. The base is where it gets interesting. Cedar and vetiver stay dry, but coconut milk softens them without adding sugar, like a faint memory of sunscreen. Compared with the 2009 Only The Brave, which is more leathery and ambery, Wild is more aromatic and less of a night scent. It is aimed at men who want a weekend fragrance without defaulting to the usual blue aquatic. That alone makes it worth a sniff.
When to wear it
For a summer day outdoors or a weekend in the countryside. Three sprays on the chest, and it lasts decently for an eau de toilette.
It belongs to the Fougère, Aromatic family. Only The Brave Wild is one of 14 creations by Diesel in our encyclopedia.
