The story of Jimmy Choo
Born in Malaysia, shoemaker Jimmy Choo settled in London, where he handcrafted shoes for a select clientele. In 1996 he joined forces with Tamara Mellon, then an accessories editor at Vogue, to create a luxury ready-to-wear line. The brand quickly became a symbol of glamour, worn by celebrities and popularised by the pop culture of the 2000s. It later broadened its world to include handbags and accessories. Fragrance arrived in 2011 with Jimmy Choo, developed under licence by the Interparfums group, in a faceted bottle designed to evoke a jewel. It marked the beginning of a fragrance line that would grow to include many women's and, later, men's releases, each one echoing the brand's red-carpet glamour and its taste for polished, confident femininity.
An olfactory signature
The Jimmy Choo signature is a modern fruity chypre, both fresh and sensual. The fragrance opens with green notes, pear and mandarin, a juicy, sparkling freshness. The heart brings together orchid and tiger orchid with a toffee accord, an unexpected caramelised sweetness. A base of patchouli and woody notes provides the chypre structure. The result is an assertive feminine scent, elegant without being prim, and more grown-up than its fruity opening first suggests.
Which Jimmy Choo perfume to choose?
In our database the house is represented by Jimmy Choo, its debut fragrance from 2011. Choose it if you like modern fruity chypres with a gourmand hint of toffee and a patchouli base. It works equally well by day and at night. For a similar style, compare it with Salvatore Ferragamo Signorina or Giorgio Armani Sì.
