Our take
What does Chrome Aqua smell like?
Azzaro added Chrome Aqua to the Chrome family in 2019, more than twenty years after the 1996 original. Jean-Christophe Hérault composed the eau de toilette. The opening is sharp and green. Grapefruit snaps, green apple brings a juicy crunch, and violet leaf adds a cool cucumber note. The heart is the best part. A marine accord crosses paths with basil and mint, giving the herbal freshness of a kitchen garden rather than plain salt water. The cypress and vetiver base stays dry and a little resinous. It could use a bit more body. Compared with the original Chrome, which is more lemony and musky, Aqua is greener and more herbal. It joins the crowd of 2010s fresh masculines, with basil as its one distinguishing mark. That's enough to make it a pleasant summer pick.
When to wear it
For summer, the gym or a hot day at the office. Plan on four sprays, as it rarely lasts beyond four to six hours.
