Our take
What does CK One Summer smell like?
Calvin Klein created CK One Summer in 2004 as a yearly limited edition. Each summer brings a new formula and a new bottle, in the clean unisex spirit of the 1994 CK One. Several perfumers have taken turns, including Harry Fremont and Clément Gavarry. This entry describes the 2004 edition, the very first. It opens on citrus and a slightly sour green kiwi. The heart pairs cactus with blueberry leaf and lily of the valley. The effect is cool water and greenery, very light. The base settles for faint musk and vetiver. Nothing pushes forward, which is the point. Later editions tried other ideas, from lemon to guava, while keeping that sheer feel. Compared with the original CK One, more herbal and tea-like, the Summer version is more watery and fleeting.
