Our take
What does Eau de Courrèges smell like?
Eau de Courrèges came out in 1977, six years after Empreinte, the house's first perfume. André Courrèges was dressing his clients in white and vinyl at the time, and the scent follows the same clean line. The brand relaunched it around 2012. Bergamot and lime open, sour and very direct. The heart is more unusual. Lily of the valley brings a woodland freshness and mint a cold snap. Star anise adds an aniseed note that some sources describe as absinthe instead. Picture mint cordial topped up with iced water. The base is more conventional, pairing patchouli, vetiver and moss. It gives the whole a quiet chypre frame. Compared with Eau de Rochas, another citrus women's eau from the 1970s, Eau de Courrèges is greener and mintier. It doesn't last long on skin, which is normal for the genre.
