Our take
What does Deep Euphoria smell like?
Eleven years after Euphoria, Calvin Klein released Deep Euphoria in August 2016. Firmenich perfumer Honorine Blanc composed it, with Ann Gottlieb consulting. The name promises darkness. The bottle delivers it. The skin, much less so. It opens on a surprising marine note from Cascalone, a molecule that smells like damp air by the water. Persistent white pepper and green mandarin leaf round out a slightly cool start. The heart warms up with black rose, peony and jasmine sambac. Geranium slips in an almost minty edge. Patchouli and musk make up the base over dry woods. Once settled, it stays clean and fairly linear. Some testers call it a chypre, but there is no real moss to justify the label. The 2005 Euphoria leaned on pomegranate and black orchid over an amber base. Deep Euphoria is drier and more peppery than its older sibling, with far less sugar.
When to wear it
An office rose that carries into the evening without effort. Two sprays on the chest are enough, as the pepper lingers for hours.
It belongs to the Floral, Chypre family. Deep Euphoria is one of 24 creations by Calvin Klein in our encyclopedia.
