Our take
What does L'Eau de Chloé smell like?
In 2012 Chloé gave this eau de toilette to Michel Almairac, who had already composed the 2008 Chloé. The brief called for something fresher and lighter. Almairac used distilled rose water instead of an absolute to get a dewy morning effect. The opening is lively. Grapefruit and lemon meet bergamot, with a juicy peach and an aldehyde that makes it fizz. The rose arrives quickly, sheer, with violet and peony around it. A little magnolia and jasmine frame it without weighing it down. The base is a surprise for such a light scent. Patchouli, cedar and oakmoss build a real chypre frame. The 2008 Chloé eau de parfum is more powdery and better behaved. This one is greener and edgier. It has since been replaced by Chloé L'Eau, a different formula, and it is getting harder to find.
When to wear it
Ideal for a spring day or an air conditioned office in summer. Four sprays will not bother anyone since longevity is modest.
It belongs to the Floral, Chypre family. L'Eau de Chloé is one of 9 creations by Chloé in our encyclopedia.
