Our take
What does La Panthère Édition Soir smell like?
Cartier introduced La Panthère Édition Soir in 2016, two years after La Panthère. Mathilde Laurent, the house perfumer since 2005, reworked her floral chypre into an evening version. Only a handful of notes were published. Gardenia remains the subject, but here it loses the fruity facets of the original. It feels fleshier, almost creamy. Musk takes up much more room and carries a frankly animal shade. You smell skin, fur, something warm. Oakmoss lays a dark chypre base underneath that gives the whole thing structure. It moves slowly and clings to clothing. Compared with the classic La Panthère, Édition Soir has less sparkle at first and more depth over time. It brings to mind the chypres of an earlier era, only quieter. If the original La Panthère is a daytime cat, this one hunts after dark.
When to wear it
An evening scent for autumn and winter. One or two sprays on the back of the neck, no more, because the musk takes over.
It belongs to the Floral, Chypre family. La Panthère Édition Soir is one of 15 creations by Cartier in our encyclopedia.
