Our take
What does Hyperbole smell like?
Courrèges launched Hyperbole in autumn 2016. Antoine Lie and Jean Jacques, perfumers with the Takasago group, composed it. The name borrows from a Courrèges sportswear line launched in 1971. The bet comes down to one idea. Tobacco, usually kept for men's scents, sits at the heart of a feminine perfume. The start is blunt. White pepper stings, bergamot brightens, and the attack feels almost abrupt. Then tobacco flower settles in with tonka. It smells of dried leaf with a hint of honey, without the sourness of a cold cigar. The base softens everything. Cocoa, vanilla and patchouli build a texture like powdered dark chocolate. Compared with Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille, Hyperbole is drier at the start and more chocolatey at the end. Projection is clear without being overbearing. The angular orange-tinted bottle suits the house well.
When to wear it
For autumn and winter evenings or a date. Two sprays are plenty, since the cocoa grows over time.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Spicy family. Hyperbole is one of 9 creations by Courrèges in our encyclopedia.
