Our take
What does Wild Ocean smell like?
Courrèges released Wild Ocean in 2019, a men's scent by Benoist Lapouza. The pyramid has three elements and the brand owns that. A marine accord opens, salty and airy, without the melon note found in so many aquatics. The heart promises a warm sand accord. It mostly reads as mineral warmth, skin drying in the sun rather than a specific beach. The base rests on Ambroxan, which stretches the salty effect and adds projection. Next to Giorgio Armani's Acqua di Giò, the benchmark aquatic, Wild Ocean is drier and less citrusy. The result is coherent but thin. Some reviewers missed iodine notes that would have made the promised ocean more convincing. It wears like a standard fresh eau de toilette and fades fairly fast. The bottle also seems harder to find in shops now.
When to wear it
Spray it freely in summer, after the beach or the pool. Save it for hot days, as it vanishes in the cold.
It belongs to the Woody, Aquatic family. Wild Ocean is one of 9 creations by Courrèges in our encyclopedia.
