Our take
What does Twilly d'Hermès Eau Ginger smell like?
Hermès launched Twilly d'Hermès Eau Ginger in June 2021, after the original Twilly from 2017 and Eau Poivrée from 2019. House perfumer Christine Nagel called it the pop side of the line. The brand names only three materials. Candied ginger leads the opening, sweet and prickly like a ginger sweet. Peony arrives almost at once. It is fresh and slightly rosy, more crushed petal than bouquet. Cedar serves as the base. It is pale and luminous, far from the drier pencil-shaving woods. On skin it sits fairly close, and some wearers find the ginger quieter than promised. In the 2017 Twilly, ginger woke up tuberose and creamy sandalwood. Eau Ginger is lighter and tangier than that, with almost no floral weight. It is a full-sun Hermès, cheerful and shallow, and it doesn't pretend otherwise.
When to wear it
For hot days, in town or at the weekend. Four sprays, since it doesn't last long.
