Our take
What does Eau Tropicale smell like?
Sisley introduced Eau Tropicale in spring 2014. The house says it drew on a tropical forest after a storm. Sources disagree on the perfumer, so we leave that question open. The opening is full of sun with bergamot, hibiscus and passion fruit, plus a creamy frangipani. Ginger stops the fruit from turning into syrup. In the heart, violet brings a powdery coolness. Turkish rose and tuberose thicken the bouquet. Then patchouli and cedar pull the scent back toward the chypre structure the house is fond of. Ambrette finishes on slightly musky, clean and warm skin. Eau du Soir remains Sisley's dark chypre. Eau Tropicale plays the opposite card, lighter and fruitier, made for daytime. It is an eau de toilette and the longevity shows it. The fruit never turns cloying, which is the real achievement here.
When to wear it
For summer mornings and sunny weekends. Reapply around midday if you want to keep the fruit.
It belongs to the Floral, Chypre family. Eau Tropicale is one of 9 creations by Sisley in our encyclopedia.
