Our take
What does Kenzo pour Homme smell like?
Christian Mathieu created Kenzo pour Homme in 1991, just as the marine wave was sweeping through men’s perfumery. It has been reformulated several times and is now sold as Kenzo Homme in a new bottle. The opening pairs clary sage and rosewood with bergamot and lemon, all over a backdrop of sea spray. The heart is the most unusual part. An ozonic note recalls the air after a storm. It meets thyme and soft spices like clove and nutmeg, then pine pulls the scent into the woods. You walk from the shoreline into the forest. The base stays resinous and fresh, with cedar and balsam fir alongside sandalwood and white musk. Labdanum, listed for the current version, adds a little warmth. It smells more like an Atlantic pine coast than the tropics.
When to wear it
Spring and summer, for daytime or the office. Four or five sprays, topped up in the afternoon.
It belongs to the Aquatic, Aromatic family. Kenzo pour Homme is one of 24 creations by Kenzo in our encyclopedia.
