Our take
What does Kenzo Jungle L'Éléphant smell like?
Dominique Ropion composed Kenzo Jungle L'Éléphant in 1996. The elephant is the house's good-luck animal, and the perfume smells like a spice market. The opening hits hard. Clove, cardamom and cumin jostle with a mandarin that barely lightens the mix. The cumin gives a warm-skin note, almost animalic, and it divides people. The heart heads somewhere unexpected. Mango brings plump yellow fruit, licorice a dark sweetness and heliotrope an almond powder. Ylang-ylang ties it together. The base is a dense vanilla thickened with patchouli and amber, which cashmeran turns woody and musky. It lasts for hours and leaves a trail people notice in a lift. Kenzo still sells it under the name Kenzo Jungle.
