Our take
What does Ô d'Azur smell like?
Lancôme launched Ô d’Azur in June 2010 as a summer take on Ô de Lancôme, its 1969 fresh water. Domitille Bertier and Sophie Labbé composed it. The name plays on two images, azure summer skies and the Côte d’Azur. It opens with a splash of citrus. Amalfi lemon and bergamot give a clean tartness that makes your mouth water. The heart turns fruity floral. Peony and rose stay light while pink pepper adds a sparkling grain. The base is built on musk and ambrette seed with a few woody notes. Ambrette brings a clean skin softness with a hint of pear. Ô de Lancôme is more aromatic and closer to a chypre, so Ô d’Azur reads as more floral and more modern. It loses the slight bitterness that gave the original its charm. What remains is fresh and easy, if a little anonymous.
