Our take
What does Mille Feux smell like?
Mille Feux belongs to Louis Vuitton's very first perfume collection, launched in 2016. Jacques Cavallier Belletrud says the idea came to him in one of the house workshops while watching a craftsman shape raspberry-coloured leather. The formula follows that picture closely. Raspberry opens juicy and a little candied, over saffron that gives it a spiced taste. Leather shows up early, smoky but restrained. After twenty minutes or so the iris comes through and makes things more powdery, while osmanthus mostly leaves an apricot impression. Then the fruit returns, softer, on a suede-like skin. Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather comes to mind at once, since it plays the same raspberry and saffron card. Mille Feux is calmer, less tarry and more feminine. That is also its weakness, because projection stays low for a perfume at this price.
When to wear it
For autumn and winter, from daytime to dinner. Spray it on skin rather than clothes because it opens up with warmth.
It belongs to the Leather family. Mille Feux is one of 13 creations by Louis Vuitton in our encyclopedia.
